Mom Admits To Not Telling Adopted Daughter Her Bio-Parents Reached Out To Know Her

One adoptive mother took to Reddit to ask if she was in the wrong for keeping her daughter’s biological mom away from her.

On the surface, adoption seems like a wonderful thing. A child has been taken into a family that will love them and care for them. However, it is not without its problems and sometimes those who adopt don’t always think about future problems that can arise. These are never easy situations, and it can make a lot of people question whether they are making the right decision. One adoptive mother took to Reddit to ask if she was in the wrong for keeping her daughter’s biological mom away from her.  She posted her situation on Reddit’s “Am I The A-hole” page and it is a tricky on. She states that she adopted her daughter back in 2011, when she was a student in her class. The girl, who was 9 at the time, was coming in “distressed” most days. The teacher decided to call CPS and fought hard for custody of her. She made it official and adopted her a year later.  Shortly after she adopted the young girl, she learned that the biological father was arrested and went to prison and that the biological mother was headed the same way. She had made it very clear when she adopted the girl that they would have to be drug-free before they got the chance to have contact with her daughter.  Fast forward to the present day, and mom gets a Facebook message from the biological mother. She said that she had gotten her act together and wanted to see her daughter.  The girl is now 18 years old and described as a “happy, healthy and incredible teenager” and since mom didn’t want to see her daughter get hurt, she decided to ignore the message and block the biological mother from messaging her.  This backfired on her when her daughter approached her saying that her biological mother had messaged her about wanting to meet. Mom admitted to her daughter that she had gotten a message as well.  This caused the daughter to get very upset and said that she could no longer trust her because she was not honest. She said she honestly thought she was protecting her, but even her husband said she should have told her, so she doesn’t know if she did the right thing. Many in the comment section were on the husband’s side on this one.  They said that they understood that she was just trying to protect her daughter, she should have told her and let her make that decision. Since her daughter was now 18, it is really her choice if she wants to have a relationship with her biological parents.
