Dramatic video footage shows the moment a man used an axe to smash a car window to rescue a dog left in 36C heat.  A witness said the Yorkshire Terrier was "at the window panting like mad" on the back seat of the VW Golf at the Newbury Retail Park in Berkshire.  The owners allegedly left the dog in the car as they shopped in a nearby Currys PC World.  The moment the dog was rescued was captured on camera and the man who smashed the window has been called a "hero" on social media.  In the video, the man uses an axe to smash the front passenger window to let some air in while the dog sits in the back of the car.  Finally the dog is taken out of the vehicle.  A witness claimed the owner had gone into Currys with her daughter.  She said the dog was panting and trying to get out of the inches of open window.  The witness said the man informed police officers nearby of what had happened and they took the animal to the vets.  "She [the owner] tried to say she had been 20 minutes. More like 45," the witness claimed.

A Thames Valley Police spokesman told the Daily Mail: "A member of the public did smash a car window to get a dog out of a car.  "Two of our PCSOs attended, the dog was taken by one of the PCSOs for a check over. The owner of the vehicle returned and was given advice."
